QUOTE OF THE DAY
“I’ve come to believe that a good cry is like a car wash for the soul.”
― Bill Hayes
IDEA OF THE DAY
Last week’s quote focused on the courage to reach out and ask for help. For some, this is easy, yet many others struggle to ask for help when life becomes challenging. It can feel very vulnerable to share with someone that you may be going through a hard time. Perhaps it’s hard to be trusting of others, or it may be that we prefer to have others see us at our best, and not at our worst. Whatever the reason, sometimes it’s difficult to bridge the gap between wanting to ask for help and being able to do so.
And that’s ok.
If reaching out feels daunting, then let’s start with something more doable; completing the stress cycle. All too often, when stress compounds over time, the first gut reaction is to push it away and deal with it another day.
Rather than taking the same approach, consider outlets to release stress, rather than suppressing it. Here are some of the ways you can complete the cycle:
-Physical activity (like walking, dancing, yoga, working out, and stretching)
-Being creative (whether it’s a small doodle or a huge new work of art)
-Laughing
-Crying
-Physical affection (whether a hug from someone you love or embracing yourself in a big hug!)
-Deep Breathing (come back to your breath and check in with yourself)
-Rest (sometimes the body just needs a solid night’s sleep to recover)
Even a few minutes of trying one of these may help calm your nervous system and let it know that even though things are tough right now, they won’t always be. So dear friend, if you are in the thick of it, allow yourself to have that good cry. It may not solve anything (yet), but it will give you that mental car wash that helps cleanse all the jumbled emotions that have been taking up so much space in your system. You got this!
QUESTION OF THE DAY
Of the many ways to release stress, which feels the most natural to you in this moment?
