QUOTE OF THE DAY
“The broken pieces are what make us beautiful.”

IDEA OF THE DAY
Years ago, I learned about a Japanese art form known as Kintsugi, in which pottery that has cracks or breaks within it is mended with a lacquer mixed with gold powder. Literally translated as “golden repair”, the concept supports embracing what is flawed and seeing beauty in the cracks, rather than trying to hide the imperfections.
I find that when I look at examples of Kintsugi pottery, there is such a unique beauty in the way cracks are highlighted as areas of beauty to focus on, rather than ignore.
Looking at today’s quote, each of us are, in our own beautiful ways, an expression of Kintsugi. Perhaps you’ve encountered some major cracks and breaks within your lifetime. It can take a while to begin putting the pieces back together. At some point, you start moving through the pain and healing. This is where Kintsugi occurs; taking what has been broken, and rather than trying to go back to the way things were, arranging the broken pieces in a whole new way. And in the growth that occurs along the way, you come to realize how beautiful of an artwork you are.
So for today, may you take a moment to explore the golden seams of your pottery of life- they hold so much wisdom for you. You may have been broken or feel a bit broken…or you may be in a powerful space of gratitude for what you’ve encountered. Wherever you are along your path, the beautiful cracked teacup within me acknowledges and sees the beautiful cracked teacup within you.
(Oh Joyna, must you ALWAYS make a tea reference?!?)
Yes. Yes I do.
QUESTION OF THE DAY
What are some of your most treasured golden seams?
