QUOTE OF THE DAY

“You are the sky. Everything else…is just the weather.”

 -Pema Chodron

IDEA OF THE DAY

When it comes to self-help books, I have no shelf control. (Ohhhh, starting early on with the puns Joyna!) Every time I step into a bookstore or chat with my self-help-loving friends, another title gets added to my list. Not all of them are tackled at once, but just knowing they’re there—within arm’s reach—feels comforting. For me, self-help books are like a grown-up version of a favorite stuffed animal or cozy blanket. They provide comfort, grounding, and a sense of warmth.

Books are my way of learning and growing, but there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to self-improvement. Love meditating? Go for it! Prefer to-do lists and productivity hacks? That works too. The beauty of self-help is the freedom to try new things, keep what resonates, and leave the rest behind. Over time, you create a custom toolkit that helps you feel more in control and better about how you show up in life.

Tying this into today’s quote: I like to think that who I am—and who you are—is like the sky. That big, beautiful blue sky is always there, no matter what clouds or storms may roll in.  You know when you’re feeling okay. And you know when storm clouds are brewing. For me, those stormy moments often come when I let go of the routines that help me stay balanced. When that happens, self-criticism gets louder, my patience wears thin, and I feel grumpier in tough moments.

That’s when I turn to my bookshelf of self-help wisdom. Even reading just a page or two can start to clear the storm clouds and bring back my blue-sky sense of peace and expansion. What helps you weather your storms?  Maybe it’s books, or maybe it’s something else entirely. Whatever works for you, it’s worth exploring and building on. The important part is finding what helps you reset and feel like yourself again…and making it stick!
