QUOTE OF THE DAY
When “Impossible” Becomes Possible
“Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you.”
— Alexander Graham Bell (first telephone message, March 10, 1876)
“The ‘telephone’ has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication.”
— Internal memo from Western Union (1876)
IDEA OF THE DAY
Today in history, over 150 years ago, an invention was created that would eventually reshape how humans communicate: the telephone.
In fact, many people were convinced it wouldn’t work.
And that contrast is where things get interesting.
What History Keeps Showing Us
This pattern repeats itself again and again:
- The car was once seen as a passing novelty
- Early airplanes were considered unsafe fantasies
- The internet was dismissed as a temporary curiosity
And yet here we are—living in a world shaped by all of them.
What was once “impossible” slowly became normal.
Not instantly. Not easily. But eventually.
Where “Impossible” Shows Up in Your Life
It’s easy to see this pattern in hindsight.
It’s harder to notice when we’re in it.
In our own lives, “impossible” often sounds like:
- I can’t change careers at this stage of life
- I’ll never get back in shape
- It’s too late to start over
- I’ll never figure this out
These thoughts feel like facts—but they’re often just assumptions wearing a serious tone.
A Different Way to Hold Uncertainty
None of this means everything is easy or guaranteed.
Some things take time. Some things take effort. Some things ask us to grow in ways that feel uncomfortable.
But there’s a meaningful difference between:
- This is hard
and - This is impossible
One closes the door. The other keeps it slightly open.
The Real Shift Happens Here
Sometimes progress doesn’t begin with solving the problem.
It begins with softening your certainty.
Not forcing belief. Not rushing action.
Just allowing yourself to consider:
What if this isn’t actually impossible?
That small shift can change what you’re willing to try next.
An Invitation
If there’s something in your life that feels out of reach right now, you don’t have to decide its outcome today.
But you might explore the assumption behind it.
Because history—and your own life—are full of things that once felt impossible… until they weren’t.
A Question to Reflect On
Why do we treat changing our minds as failure instead of growth?
If You’re Sitting With Something That Feels “Impossible”
This is often where meaningful change begins—not with certainty, but with curiosity.
You don’t have to force the outcome.
You just have to stay open to what might actually be possible.
