QUOTE OF THE DAY

Life Isn’t a Problem to Solve

“Life is not meant to be solved, it’s meant to be lived.”
Glennon Doyle

This past week, I noticed a theme coming up with a few clients.

A quiet but persistent feeling of disappointment in themselves.

Not doing enough.
Not being far enough along.
Not having enough to show for their efforts.

And underneath all of it, the same thought:
I should be doing more.

IDEA OF THE DAY

The Thought So Many of Us Share

How often do you hear that voice in your own mind?

(I know I do.)

But when we zoom out, something becomes clear:

Life is full.

Energy fluctuates.
Family needs come up.
Schedules get packed.
Unexpected things happen.

And yet, we’re often measuring ourselves against a version of life that assumes none of that exists.

Of course it feels like we’re falling short.

What It Actually Looks Like to Be “In It”

One client came in feeling overwhelmed—trying to balance work while job searching, unsure what direction even felt exciting anymore.

Another felt frustrated for not making “enough progress,” while also:

  • traveling constantly
  • showing up for family
  • navigating the emotional ups and downs of dating

From the outside, it would be easy to say they’re stuck.

But that’s not what’s happening.

They’re in it.

They’re adjusting. Learning. Practicing boundaries. Gaining clarity in real time.

The Hidden Work We Don’t Count

The problem is that we often only measure progress by what is:

  • visible
  • completed
  • linear

But a lot of meaningful growth doesn’t look like that.

It looks like:

  • noticing your patterns
  • trying something new and recalibrating
  • learning what doesn’t work
  • slowly getting clearer on what does

None of that feels flashy. But it is movement.

A Different Way to Measure Your Life

So here’s a reframe I want to offer you:

You’re not behind. You’re responding to your life.

Say it with me:

I am responding to my life.

And that’s not a problem—that’s reality.

Instead of asking:
“Why am I not further along?”

Try asking:
“What would feel like enough, given everything on my plate right now?”

That question tends to bring something different online:
honesty, clarity, and self-compassion.

Flexibility Is Not Failure

We’re often taught that consistency looks like doing more, pushing harder, staying on track no matter what.

But real life doesn’t work like that.

Flexibility isn’t falling off track.

It’s what makes sustainable progress possible.

An Invitation

If you’ve been feeling “in it” lately—navigating uncertainty, change, or just a full season of life—you don’t need to force yourself into a version of progress that doesn’t fit.

There’s a way to move forward that includes your actual life, not an idealized one.

And you don’t have to figure that out alone.

A Question to Reflect On

Am I measuring progress only by output, or also by what I’m learning and shifting internally?

Closing Note

This is your reminder that your life is not something to solve.

It’s something you’re actively living, shaping, and responding to—one moment at a time.
