QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it well and serenely, and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense. This day for all that is good and fair. It is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the rotten yesterdays.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

IDEA OF THE DAY

Some days go dashingly well, and others are filled with bumps along the way. The hope is that your weeks and months are filled with the days that bring you happiness and growth in all the good ways.

Yet sometimes in life, we face challenging moments, day after day…and it can get a bit disheartening. Have you had times in your life where this is the case? Where the obstacles pile up, the state of the world is looking bleak and it becomes harder to see the positive? When that happens, it becomes easy to begin doubting ourselves, and wondering where we messed up along the way.  As these trains of thought become more frequent, it brings about more stress, anxiety and feelings of self-doubt- which doesn’t help with keeping us in a healthy and strong mental space.

Oof.

So what can we do about it?

As Emerson suggests, treat each day as something completely new. Try your best to let go of the foibles of yesterday (yes, I said foibles because why not?) and give yourself a chance to bring a fresh train of thought as a new day begins.

Recently, I was having challenges with a neighbor and was feeling quite upset with the outcome. I had spent a few days in a row waking up, remembering the issue and repeating the conversations and anger I was feeling in my head. It did me no good. So I finally made the decision to start my day fresh- to let go of what I could not change- and to choose inner peace rather than a revengeful attitude. Because of this choice, I feel much calmer about the situation and know that what is meant to be will be.

So let go of the blunders and absurdities of yesterday, my dear friend, and welcome in a day too beautiful to be encumbered by any old nonsense. So well said Emerson!
