QUOTE OF THE DAY

Whenever you catch yourself saying “I’ve got to…”, pause and replace it with “I get to…”
This tiny shift moves you out of resistance and into agency. When you “get to” do something, you’re no longer the victim of circumstance. You’ve accepted the reality you’re in, and you’re choosing to participate. Acceptance isn’t approval. It’s simply recognizing what is so you can begin creating something better.

Words matter. They shape the mindset you bring to the moment.

IDEA OF THE DAY

We’re in the week of the Thanksgiving holidays…and not long after, we have the Christmas season rapidly approaching. For many of us, it means connecting with family and friends, sharing in the joy of community. For others, it may be something more stressful; hosting a large group, attending family events when you’d rather be at home with a good book, or just figuring out how to handle the overwhelm of the holiday season.

Wherever you find yourself on this spectrum of the “holiday dance,” I want to offer a gentle reminder of the simple mindset reframe: “get to.”

It’s so easy to slip into thoughts about what we have to do, need to do, or should do. Even just starting a sentence with “I need to” can spark a little stress or tension. Now multiply that by twenty “I have to” statements, and we’re well on our way to burnout. (Eek!)

So, for this week- let’s play a little.

Let’s try to begin phrases with “I get to”…and notice how that feels slightly differently in your nervous system.

Here- I’ll start us off.

This week, I get to go on an adventure via plane, ferry, and car to celebrate the holidays with my boyfriend’s family for the first time ever. I get to see the joy and happiness on his face as he connects with his biological family and gets to know them.

Today, I get to enjoy my morning Earl Grey latte while writing this newsletter for you!

In this moment, I get to listen to my breathing as I gaze out the window and enjoy the leaves changing color.
