QUOTE OF THE DAY
“It takes discipline not to let social media steal your time.”
– Alexis Ohanian
IDEA OF THE DAY
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about social media; specifically, how much time I spend scrolling through Instagram. I’ll open the app for a quick break, and suddenly an hour has flown by. Whenever there’s a pause in my day, I instinctively reach for my phone. Before I know it, I’m thinking, “Oh no! I should’ve started making dinner 20 minutes ago!”
Maybe Instagram isn’t your app of choice. Maybe it’s Facebook, X, TikTok, YouTube, or just aimlessly browsing the internet. Whatever it is, these platforms are designed to keep us engaged and hooked. And when something is designed to be addictive, breaking the habit can feel really difficult, even impossible at times.
A few weeks ago, I was talking about this with a friend who had the same struggle. She recommended an app called ScreenZen, which helps you be more intentional about your screen time and interrupt the habit loop of endless scrolling.
And let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer.
I still check Instagram, but now I’m on it less than 30 minutes a day. What I appreciate most about ScreenZen is that before you open an app, it prompts you with a 5-second pause and the question: “Why am I checking?” It’s such a simple shift, but it makes a big difference. That moment of reflection gives me the chance to choose something else, like reading a book, working on a project, or going for a walk. It opens the door to so many better options.
If you’ve been feeling stuck in the scroll, I highly recommend trying something like ScreenZen. It’s a small change that can help you reclaim your time and your attention.
QUESTION OF THE DAY
How do you feel after spending time scrolling—energized, numb, inspired, drained?
