QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Things that aren’t doing the thing:

  • Preparing to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Scheduling time to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Making a to-do list for the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Telling people you’re going to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Messaging friends who may or may not be doing the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Hating on yourself for not doing the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Hating on other people who have done the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Hating on the obstacles in the way of doing the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Reading about how to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Reading about how other people did the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Reading this essay isn’t doing the thing.

The only thing that is doing the thing is doing the thing.”

IDEA OF THE DAY

Do you have that thing in your life—the one that should’ve been done ages ago but is still just… looming?

Or maybe you’ve been wanting to try something new, but fear keeps getting in the way?

Most of the people who reach out to me for coaching are facing exactly that: a challenge that’s grown so big, it’s led to paralysis. The issue feels too heavy to tackle alone. Some are desperate for a breakthrough, ready to stop feeling stuck. Others realize, through conversation, that maybe it’s not about leaping into the big thing just yet—it’s about starting smaller, with steps that feel manageable and less intimidating.

What’s interesting is, we all have “things”—the roadblocks, the fears, the stuck points. It’s totally normal. Honestly, it’s part of what makes life spicy, unpredictable and exciting. But the goal is to move forward despite the fear. And that can be hard—even just considering action can feel overwhelming.

But here’s the truth: the only way through the thing… is to do the thing. Even if it’s just for one minute.

Want to start working out? Stretch for one minute.
Have a daunting project? Set a 15-minute timer and focus just on that.
Need to have a tough conversation? Stop overthinking and lean in—just begin.

Doing the hard thing might not feel great at first. But once you take that first step, relief follows. So does confidence. Bit by bit, it builds.

I believe in me—and I believe in you, too.
So let’s tackle the things—starting today.
