QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Pay attention to the little things, because they tell you a lot about the big thing.”

IDEA OF THE DAY

Last week, we explored the vastness of the ever-expanding universe. Reminding ourselves that we are just a teeny tiny speck in a brief moment of time gives the perspective shift of not taking ourselves and our issues too seriously.

This is all well and good when we are in the headspace of imagination and creativity. However, what do we do when we are super stuck in a train of thought? How can we get out of a spiral of broken record players that are repeating the same challenges to us over and over again?

I’m so glad you asked!

The smallest thing you can do that will make the biggest difference is simply to be aware of what is going on inside of you. This means paying attention to what you are telling yourself about a situation, how you are breathing, your posture, and the feelings that are coming up for you in that moment.

There is A LOT to focus on, and so often, we can get hung up on an issue and not be aware of what is going on inside of us and how it is adding stress to the situation.  For example, in most of my consultation calls, I pay attention to the breathing style of the person speaking. I often bring awareness to the shallowness of breath, and how taking a deep breath can make a difference. And the response I hear is “Gosh, you’re right! I never noticed that until you pointed it out!”

By beginning to be aware of what is happening on the inside, you bring yourself to the present moment, pay attention to how a certain thought makes you feel, and from there, you can determine what you want to shift as you move forward. (Perhaps a deep breath, a change in posture, an affirmation to fill you up with good feelings, the choices are endless!)

QUESTION OF THE DAY
