IDEA OF THE DAY

As a kid, I spent summer days running barefoot in the backyard, lying in tall grass with my sister as we named clouds and caught fireflies in the golden evening light. In the fall, we’d build giant piles of leaves to jump into and go apple-picking in search of the perfect apple. Winter meant staying up late, gazing at the sky, wishing for a blizzard that would turn the world into a snow-covered wonderland—and hopefully, a day off school. Spring brought fresh energy, with flowers pushing through the last bits of snow, coaxing me out of my winter slumber.

Back then, being present came naturally.

As an adult, it’s not always so easy. But I miss those moments—and I’d love to find my way back to that sense of presence.

Does that ever happen to you?

If so, you’re in luck. Today’s message, inspired by intelligent change, offers three simple ideas to add to your grown-up survival kit. Try one—or all three—and see what helps you reconnect with your inner child.

Create a “soft corner” in your life
Make one small space that feels safe. A song you always return to. A chair by the window. A journal that doesn’t judge you. Grown-up life doesn’t always feel good—give yourself somewhere to land.

Give your feelings a name, not a job
You don’t need to fix your sadness, explain your anger, or justify your joy. Just name it:
“I feel heavy today.”
“I feel hopeful.”
“I feel disconnected.”
That’s enough. That’s emotional maturity.

Make one unproductive decision
Wear something wild that you love. Wander without a destination. Revisit something silly you used to adore. Growing up doesn’t mean outgrowing the parts of you that made life fun. Bring them with you—on purpose.

Today, I’m feeling inspired to create a soft corner in my life—and an idea is taking shape: putting all the beautiful branches I’ve collected over the years to good use. My inner Joyna is pretty excited to begin.

How about you? Got any soft corner dreams brewing?
