QUOTE OF THE DAY

For context, this is an excerpt from “Linked”, a book that conquers LinkedIn to get your dream job.

Don’t worry about being underqualified.

Lot’s of candidates won’t apply for a job unless they meet all the criteria.  But that’s a huge mistake, given that recruiters generally want or expect candidates who only meet 50 percent of them.  Why is that? From a recruiter’s perspective, someone who meets every single one of their twenty-seven job description bullets is likely to be overqualified; pursuing them might just waste time when they either decline an offer or, worse yet, bail right after starting.  Whereas someone who meets half the criteria has enough skill to come in, learn on the job, and make an impact – but not so much that they’ll be bored and decline the offer. Bottom line: Don’t let imposter syndrome dissuade you from going after your dream job.

IDEA OF THE DAY

Wow.

What a perspective shift.

I can’t count how many times clients of mine have hesitated to apply for roles simply because they didn’t meet all the qualifications. I’ve even done it myself—talked myself out of opportunities because I didn’t think I measured up.

Of course, it helps to feel qualified when applying for a role. Confidence matters. But I invite you to reflect on the moments when you may have imposed limits on yourself that didn’t need to be there.

Maybe you’ve been on the other side of this—saying, “To heck with the bullet points, I’m going for it!” If so, I admire your boldness. Keep at it!

And for those of us who wrestle with imposter syndrome, know this: you’re not alone. It’s totally normal to hesitate, to doubt, to overthink. But what if you moved forward anyway?

This week, take a moment to notice where in your life you feel hesitation or self-doubt creeping in. Revisit today’s quote. Let it really land.

You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You can be scared—and still go for it.

I believe in you.
